Shears – you can find shears that have a
smooth cutting surface or ones that have a decorative edge, which allows your
photographs to take on a range of fabulous silhouettes. They also permit you to
remove any parts of the photograph that you don’t want displayed.
Journaling Pens -- acid-free, permanent markers
and pens are essential for recording important time periods, names, and events.
They will also be useful for drawing illustrations and graphics on the pages of
your scrapbook. Purchasing stickers, templates, punches, stamps, clipart and
fonts can also help you add a distinctive style to your scrapbook.

Once you have gathered all of the
essentials now it’s time to bring the scrapbook together. Begin by choosing the
photographs you want to incorporate into the scrapbook, but stay with a
particular theme for each page such as a Wedding, Birthday Party, Baptism etc.
Use the highest quality photographs for this project. Select photographs that
are not faded, blurry, cracked or torn. You want them to be able to tell the
viewer a story. If necessary, you can have them professionally restored or you
can try and do it yourself using a graphic editing computer program.

Select Your Color Scheme -- choose colors that will add
pizzazz to your photos. Two or three different colors should be enough to
create a nice touch. Use one color for the backdrop, and the others can be used
as decorative and contrasting frame around your photographs. Using a mixture of
paper textures will add a unique flair to your scrapbook pages. Try Xeroxing special keepsakes such as a fabric square from a
quilt or a hand-made lace doily to create charming borders for your
photographs.

Trimming Your Photographs
– if
there are any objects in the photograph that you want to remove you can trim
them away using a pair of smooth-edged or decorative shears. Images
of homes, automobiles, and furniture from a specific time adds to the
historical value the photographs have so you should do what you can to preserve
them. I suggest using photocopies of any treasured photographs you wish to trim
especially if it is the only one that you have of a departed relative. If not,
you run the risk of permanently ruining them.
